Toronto police to reveal results of latest auto theft sting – Toronto
Police in Toronto are set to reveal the results of an investigation into vehicle theft in the city that has stretched for almost a year.
Around 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Chief Myron Demkiw will lead a press conference to discuss the results of an operation called Project Stallion.
The operation began in November 2022 and has spent months looking into auto theft in Toronto. Part of the event will include a chance for police to show off recovered vehicles.
The results from Project Stallion come as both the province and local police step up car theft and carjacking enforcement.
Earlier in October, it was announced Ontario Provincial Police and Toronto police would co-lead a task force focusing specifically on the rise in carjackings.
In a joint statement, the forces say there have been more than 300 carjackings in the GTA this year, with over 200 of those taking place in Toronto.
Vehicle theft more broadly has spiked in recent years, with some insurance industry groups calling it a crisis.
