Driver turns herself in after fleeing police during traffic stop in Guelph

A Toronto woman has turned herself in to the authorities after police say she fled from an officer during a traffic stop.

Police said an officer was patrolling near York and Watson roads last Wednesday afternoon and an automated licence plate reader signalled a potentially suspended driver.

After the vehicle was stopped on York, police said the driver suddenly accelerated and swerved around a bus before going into oncoming traffic.

The officer did not go after the car in the interest of public safety, but police said they managed to get a look at the driver and she did match a description.

The vehicle was reportedly last seen going southbound on Victoria Road at over 120 km/h.

A 43-year-old woman has been charged and will make a court appearance in Guelph on Dec 5.
